    提交格式:在“第三次研修作业”处提交,标题需设置为【重建课】+姓名/项目县/学校。例:【重建课】张三潢川县一小

Unit 4 Our World

Topic 2  How can we protect ourselves from the earthquake?

Section A

Ⅰ. Material analysis

   Section A is the first lesson of Unit 2 which is about earthquake. It is a lesson of listening and speaking . The main activity of it is 1a , 2a and 3. It draws out the topic about earthquake by the conversation between Kangkang and Li Ming. Then it leads in the grammar focus by carrying out a comparison among Yushu earthquake, Wenchuan earthquake and Tangshan earthquake. That is the comparative and superlative degrees of adjectives. The conversation is a bit long and difficult for the students. In order to provide some background knowledge which is related to the conversation and lay the foundation for the students’ later listening and speaking, I play a short video about earthquake for the students before listening.

Ⅱ. Teaching aims

Knowledge aims

1. To understand and master the new words and useful expressions.

2. Review and consolidate the variations of the comparative and superlative degrees of the single syllable adjectives. Have an initial perception to the the variations of the comparative and superlative degrees of the double syllable and multi-syllable adjectives through the review.

3. To describe the earthquake with the language which was learned in this lesson or response to others’ description.

Skill aims

1. To understand the news and get information about earthquakes by listening.

2. To talk about earthquakes or other natural disasters with the comparative and superlative degrees of double syllable and multi-syllable adjectives.

3. To make sentences with the comparative and superlative degrees of double syllable and multi-syllable adjectives.

Emotional aims

Let students experience the value of life, know how to cherish their own and others’ lives through the study of the earthquake.

Learning strategies

Learn to summarize and find the rules through observation.

To know about the Yushu earthquake, Wenchuan earthquake and Tangshan earthquake.

Ⅴ. Teaching procedures

Step 1 Warming up (3 minutes)

Greetings and self-introduction.

Carry out a test with the students to review the comparative and superlative degrees of single syllable and have an initial perception to the the variations of double syllable and multi- syllable adjectives.

Step 2 Presentation (5 minutes)

Have the students observe the double syllable and multi-syllable adjectives and their comparative and superlative degrees which appeared just now. Find out the changing rules.

Tell the comparative and superlative degrees of more adjectives. Complete the table in 2a.

Step 3 Listening (15 minutes)

1. Have the students look at a picture of a snowstorm and guess what the bad news is about. Then listen and complete the information in table 3.

2. Show a short video about Wenchuan earthquake to students. Ask them to watch and answer, “What earthquake is it? What will happen in the earthquakes?” Draw out the new words and expressions, “strike, missing, fall down, lose one’s life....”.

2. Look at two other pictures about Yu Shu earthquake and Tangshan earthquake, talk about them with the students. Present the new word province.

3. Have Ss observe the picture in 1a. Encourage them to predict what Kangkang and Li Ming are talking about. Then listen to 1a and choose the correct answer. Finish 1b.

Listen again and get more information about three earthquakes in China. Complete the table in 1c.

Step 4 Consolidation & Practice (10 minutes)

1.  Create a situation,“Suppose you are a reporter of CCTV, write down a report about the comparison of Wenchuan, Tangshan and Qinghai earthquake. And report it in the class.”

2.  Have the students to discuss what is important, useful, helpful...in the earthquake. Have a comparison and make a short conversation in pairs.

3.  Encourage the students to tell how we can protect ourselves in the earthquake.

Step 5 Summary (2 minutes)

Encourage the students to review what they learned in this lesson and guide them to compare the three earthquakes with the key words and phrases.

Do some excercises.

Homework:

1. Collect more information about how to protect ourselves from the earthquake to prepare for the next lesson.
