      Unit 6  I’m  going  to  study  computer  science

(Section A 1a-1c)

Teaching Aims:

1.Key Vocabulary:

Computerprogrammer,cook,doctor,engineer,violinist,driver ,pilot ,pianist,scientist等。

2.Target Language:

-What are you going to be when you grow up?

-I’m going to be an engineer.

-How are you going to do that?

-I’m going to study math hard.

Teaching Key Points:

1.Key vocabulary in this period.

2.Target language in this period.

3.Learn the usage of simple future tense.

Teaching Difficulties:

1.Learn the usage of simple future tense with “be going to”;

2.Make conversations using the key structure.

Teaching Methods:

1.Make conversations freely using the target language.

2.Role-playing.

Teaching Steps:

Step One   Greetings and revision

  After brief greetings,teacher shows a picture of his and asks the students to listen carefully and then ask them how much they know about the teacher.

Brief introduce:   I’m Mr Ding.I was born on June,15th,1997.  I started to teach English in 1996. I like to play soccer and table tennis.  I also like listening to music and reading on the Internet.  I hope my students will be good at Enlish and of course I should work harder and learn more.

Questions:  (1) When was Mr Ding was born ?

            (2) When did Mr Ding start to teach English ?

            (3) What sport does Mr. Ding like to play ?

  (4) What other things does Mr. Ding like ?

  (5) What does Mr. Ding hope ?

  (6) How long has Mr. Ding been an English teacher ?

  (7) Mr. Ding has been an English teacher for _____ years.

Step Two   Lead-in    Teach some new words by asking different jobs .

For example: Teacher: Mr. Ding is an English teacher and do you know other names of different jobs ?   Then show them some pictures about different jobs and do ask-answer practice ,like What does she do ?She is a teacher/driver/cook…

   Next  show them some more pictures about new jobs like : professional basketball player , pilot ,engineer ,computer programmer and so on .

  Self Check   After that ,a task called Test yourself is shown on the screen to see if the students have the words well .

e.g.  (1) My sister loves children very much ,so she is going to be a ________.

(2)Yao Ming and Liu Xiang are famous ________.

(3) Tom is going to be a ________ ,because he loves planes .

(4) I want to be an________because I like mending machines.

(5) Andy likes talking with people, so he going to be a________.

(6) Jimmy likes computers very much, so he wants to be a________.

(7) I’m going to be a________ in a hospital, because I want to help oth-ers.

(8) Jim wants to be a________, because he likes tasty food.

(9)Now she is a ________ just because she loves singing.

(10)Thieves(小偷) are afraid of John, because he is a________.

Step Three  Presentation 1a

  First show them the sentence structure “ What are you going to be when you grow up ? I’m going to be …”. The teacher asks and the students answers.

  Then ask them  to work in pairs to practice the structure .

   After that ask them a question “Do you think it’s easy to be an English teacher, an engineer or a doctor ” Of course the answer is “ No ’’.So what should we do ?

Show them a picture of Liu Xiang and say “ He practices running every day to be a famous runner .”

Step Four  Listening  practice 1b

  The teacher says : Tina ,Larry ,Tara ,Tom are good friends .They are talking about what they are going to be when they grow up and how they are going to do that .Listen carefully and do 1b . Then get the students to practice the conversations .

Step Five  Pairwork 1c  Show them more pictures and ask them to do ask-and –answer activities ,using the target language .Then get them to work in pairwork and talk about their jobs and the ways they are doing that .

Step Six   Groupwork    Talk Show time ! Four students in each group ,one student is the host ,others are the guests .They can :

      What are you going to be when you grow up ?

      Why are you going to be a/an…?

      How are you going to do that ?

      Where are you going to work ?

Then guide them report what they have talked about .

Step Seven   Homework  Write a passage about your dream job .
