Unit 10 Lesson 3 Your Money

Part 1Analysis of the teaching material(教材分析)

  1.Teaching content

This unit is aiming at talking about money. Today’s lesson is a reading lesson, which lets the students know how to use their pocket money in a meaningful way.

2.Teaching objectives

According to the new standard curriculum, I think my teaching objectives are as follows:

1) Knowledge and skills

l  Learn to use the new words .

l  Understand the text fully and complete the tasks.

l  Practice speaking ability through discussion..

2) Emotion and attitude

Develop awareness of the fact that the students’ pocket money may have much effect.Therefore,they should know how to use their money in a useful way and they can do many things to protect our environment in their daily life.And help students keep their interested in learning English.

  To achieve the three dimensional goals, I just put forward the following things as the key points and special difficulties in this lesson.

Teaching Key Points:

l   Learn to understand the reading passage. 

l   Learn to catch the detailed information through careful reading.

Teaching Difficult Points:

l  To make students realize the importance of their 5 yuan.

l  To let students give their ideas that how to protect environment in daily life.

Part 2 Teaching approaches(教学方法)

l  Communicative Language Teaching Method

l  Task-based Teaching Method.

 I choose these methods because The New Curriculum Reform requires us to cultivate the students’ interest of learning English, improve their ability of language using and build up their confidence of studying English. At the same time, we need to encourage the students to learn independently and cooperatively.

Part 3 Teaching Procedures(教学步骤)

Step 1.Lead—in

I show the picture of soil erosion, and ask students to think a solution to stop soil erosion.

Then I show students 5 yuan and ask them how to use it.

I give an example (to use it to buy a tree)

When they doubt whether their 5 yuan have so much effect ,the teacher can introduce the title When less is more.

Step 2. Pre-reading

Task 1: Let the students guess these new words’ meanings from the context. Let them read the words.

approximately, contain, remove, crops, puzzle

Step 3 While-reading

1. Fast reading

Task 2:Let students read the text quickly and match the main idea with each paragraph.

Paragraph 1: What is the usage of five yuan? e)

Paragraph 2: The erosion of land is the main cause of Yellow River erosion.(d)

Paragraph 3: It is a hard job to control Yellow River erosion.(c)

Paragraph 4: Everybody plays an important part in stopping Yellow River erosion.(a)

Paragraph 5: A successful tree-planting programme in Inner Mongolia and the importance of your 5 yuan. (b)

2.Careful reading:

Task 3: Invite the students read the passage carefully and answer the                 following questions.

a)      Which river is being talked about in the article?

b)      In which area has soil erosion almost destroyed farming land?

c)      What can people do to help stop soil erosion?

d)      Why does the writer say 5 yuan is important?

e)      Which example is given to show that 5 yuan can help to develop a local economy?

Task4: Let the students listen to the tape and do the exercise of True or False.(The teacher can let students have a competition.)

f)       With the money of selling trees, farmers can buy goods or services.

g)      Jiuchengong Valley has been changed into a green homeland.

h)      Planting more trees reduces soil erosion and make soil stay on the land.

i)        Stopping Yellow River erosion is just government’s work.

Answers: F, T, T, F

(This is a competition, so the whole class will be motivated and involved.)

Step 3 Post- reading

  Task 5 : Discussion: Let the students in groups of four. They can discuss how to protect our environment.(In their idea, please show the concept of the title when less is more)

           Some minutes later, the teacher can invite some groups to show their ideas.

Conclusion

     Do not do evil things though they may be insignificant;

 

     Do not give up good things though they be minor matters.
