 Unit 4 I used to be afraid of the dark.  

Section A 1 (1a-1c)

一、教学目标:

1. 语言知识目标:

1) 能掌握以下句型:

 Mario used to be short.     

 —Did Mario use to be short?        —Yes, he did.

 —What’s he like now?              —He’s tall now.

2. 过程与方法:

1.先呈现目标语言,继而通过听力巩固,句型巩固,对话练习巩固目标语言。

2.学生合作联系,独立思考相结合。

3.利用多媒体,班班通辅助教学。

2. 情感态度价值观目标:

  能够用英语描述自己或他人过去常常做的事情;发现自己或他人在外表、性格、兴趣等方面所发生的变化。  让学生明白事物是在不断发展、变化的道理,培养学生积极向上的心态。

二、教学重难点

1. 教学重点:

1)  学会描述自己或他人过去常常做的事情基本句型:I used to… 

2)发现自己或他人在外表、性格、兴趣等方面所发生的变化。

2. 教学难点:used to do/be 句型

三、教学过程

. Lead in

1. 引导学生们来描述英语老师的长相特点。

T: What do you think your English teacher is like?

S1He has short hair.  

S2: He has a round face, two small eyes. He’s a little heavy.

T: Do you want to know what he was like in the past?

S3: Sure. We’d love to.  

T: Lets look at the picture on the screen.Lets see what he was like.

. Listening

1. Look at the chart in 1a, then discuss with your group mates. Try to fill in the chart with words to describe people.

2. Let some Ss say their answers. Let other Ss add more.  

Appearance: tall, straight hair, short, straight/curly hair, long/short hair, heavy, thin, of medium built …

Personality: Outgoing, shy, funny, serious, cute, quiet, kind, brave, friendly, active

. Presentation

1. Show two different pictures of some people that we know. Talk about their differences.

1).Tenggeer used to have long hair  ,but now he doesn`t have hair.

2.) ZhangYishan used to be short, but he is tall now.

T:  Explain the use of “used to do/be …” to the Ss.   

2.Practice with  used to. Change the sentences into a different one.

1).I was thin.àI used to be thin.

2).I was shy. àI used to be shy.

3).I was afraid of the dark. àI used to be afraid of the dark.

4). I was serious. àI used to be serious.

. Listening

1. T: Bob hasn’t seen some of his friends for four years. Now he’s seeing his friends. What did his friends use to like? Listen and fill in the blanks.

1) Mario used to be ______. He used to wear _______.

2) Amy used to be _____. She used to have _______ hair.

3) Tina used to have ______ and ______ hair.

2. Play the recording for the Ss to listen.

3. Ss listen and try to fill in the blanks with the right words.   

4. Play the recording again. Let Ss check their answers.

. Pair work

1. Look at the picture in 1a and make conversations in pairs.    

2. Ss work in pairs to ask and answer the appearance about Mario, Amy and Tina.

3. Let some pairs ask and answer in pairs.   

e.g.  A: Did Mario use to be short?  

B: Yes, he did. He used to be really short.

A: What’s he like now?

B: He’s tall now.  

. Language points

I used to be afraid of the dark.

 1 used to do sth.  过去常常做某事

表示过去经常性或习惯性的动作或状态,暗指现在已经不存了,强调过去与现在的对比。

2used to的否定形式有两种:didn’t use tousedn’t to 

3used to用于疑问句时,可借助助动词did,也可以将used提到主语前。

e.g. They used to be good friends. 他们过去是好朋友。 (暗示现在不是了)

      Mrs Brown didn’t use to / usedn’t to travel in summer.

      布朗夫人过去夏天不旅游。

      Did you use to / Used you to play the guitar? 他过去弹吉他吗?

4.反义疑问句

    Mario used to be short, didnt he_/usednt he____________?

5.练习

1I  used  to  be  short .

否定式: I didn’t use to be short.

I usedn’t  to be short.

一般疑问句:Did you use to be short?

Used you to be short?

肯定回答:Yes, I did./Yes, I used.

否定回答:No, I didn’t./No,I usedn’t

2He  used  to  like  playing  games.

否定句:He didn’t use to like playing games.

一般疑问:Did he use to like playing games?

回答:Yes ,he did./No he didn’t

VII. Summary

Did …use to…?  Used …to…?

 Mario used to be short.     

 —Did Mario use to be short?        —Yes, he did.

 —What’s he like now?              —He’s tall now.
