Unit10 You are supposed to shake hands.
Period 3
教材分析:
本单元主要围绕“customs”这个话题展开教学活动,谈论不同国家在不同情境下的文化习俗,让学生了解各国的文化习俗、社交礼仪,饮食习惯,重点帮助学生练习“be supposed to do” 的用法,在不断的练习中达到掌握以及熟练运用的目的。
本课时Section A 3a-3c主要为阅读内容,分为3部分.3a的阅读材料是关于哥伦比亚和瑞士两国不同礼仪习惯的介绍,要求学生阅读文章回答一个关键问题。3b的活动引导学生进一步关注细节,根据文章信息,找出两国不同的礼仪习俗。3c要求学生依据3a文章创编对话进行输出,巩固所学的礼仪习俗及相关表达。
语言话题:本部分的语言话题是“customs”, 内容相对来说较简单,学生对此话题好奇,很容易激发学生的兴趣。
语言功能:即学生会熟练谈论关于哥伦比亚和瑞士两国不同礼仪习惯,进而拓展如何适应不同的礼仪习惯。

2) Learn the main ideas of being on time, visiting a friend’s house and making plans with friends using the language goals by skimming and scanning and careful reading.

We should accept their customs and remember the saying: “When in Rome, do as Romans do.”

2)The phrases: drop by,make an effort to do sth.
Teaching difficult points
Divide the passages into several parts by getting the main ideas of each part.
Teaching Procedures:
Step1 Leading-in
T:Let’s go on travelling around the world. Today we’re visit these two countries. Do you know anything about these two countries? Let’s make it.
Introduce the two countries, Colombia and Switzerland.
Ss enjoy the scenery of Colombia and Switzerland.
Colombia is a country in South America. It is in the northwestern part of South America and it has been the country which produces the best coffee in the world. Switzerland lies in Western Europe. It is home to one of the developed countries in the world.
Introduce two exchange students:Teresa and Marc.Teresa is a Colombian student and Marc is a a Swiss student.
Step 2.Reading and listen for a purpose
Listen to the recording and read the passage quietly.and quickly and answer the question.
Question: In which country is it OK to be 15 minutes late for dinner?
Answer: In Colombia it is OK to be 15 minutes late for dinner.
Step 4.Careful reading
Read the passage again,divide each passage into three parts and answer the question:Which three differences are talked about in the two passages? Encourage Ss to think over the question and share their opinions with the others.
So we together find the second part of each passage by getting the main ideas of each part.
Passage 1:We value the time we spend with our family and friends in our everyday lives. We often just drop by our friends’ homes if we have time.
Passage 2:Also, we never visit a friend’s house without calling first.
Ss may note the before and after the second parts and they have divided each passage into three parts.
Main ideas of Passage 1 and 2. Help Ss to get to know that different countries have different customs. So the two passages show the ideas of being on time, visiting a friend’s house and making plans with friends.
Task1: T reads the first part of each passage carefully and complete the chart as a model. Then explains the first part of each passage by filling in the chart

Task 2: T helps Ss to read the second part and then analyzes the second part of each passage by filling in the chart.
Task 3: We are all really busy, so we'd better make plans to do something. Now let's read the kind of customs about Colombia and Switzerland.
Ss read the third part and then analyze the third part of each passage by filling in the form. They can follow the examples and finish the last tasks by themselves .

Several Ss play their opinions on the Bb if possible.
Keys:usually don’t make plan, always make plans to do sth.
Encourage Ss to finish the task by themselves and offer help if needed.
Step 4.Post-reading
1. Ss read the passages and understand the main ideas by the chart which they have worked on in their own books.
2. T explain the key phrases in the article and explain the usages of the important phrases about drop by and make an effort to do sth.
We often just drop by our friends’ homes if we have time.
So I make an effort to be on time when I meet my friends.
3. Ss role-play the conversation after the model. Student A is Teresa and Student B is Marc. Teresa is late and Marc is mad.
The model:
A: Hi, Marc. Sorry I’m a little late.
B: Teresa, you’re 10 minutes late!
A: It’s just 10 minutes! It’s no big deal!
B: Well, in Switzerland, you’re supposed to ...
Help Ss understand the meaning of no big deal and finish the conversation by adding be on time.
Step 5. Summary and Homework
T help Ss summarize the language points and recall the tasks about the reading activity.
