Unit 4 I used to be afraid of the dark

Section A (Period One)

Xinan Middle School  He Wenxiu

教学目标:

1.Master the key words and sentences.

(1) Key words: tall short heavy thin serious outgoing shy noisy quiet …

(2) Sentences: Mario used to be short.

         Amy used to have short hair.

         What is he/she like? He/She is shy.

2.Learn the usage of the structure “used to”

过程与方法:

Lead in the target language through listening and speaking practice.

情感态度与价值观:

1.     Don’t judge a person from his or her appearance

2.     Encourage students to express their opinions

重难点:

1.     Master target language

2.     Learn to talk about what you used to be like

教学过程:

Step 1  Leading in

Play a piece of music Where did time go.

And show two photos about Da Mengzi and find the differences.

Step 2  Fill in the chart.

Call students attention to the chart. Divide students into two groups and encourage them to think of some words to describe people’s appearance.

Step 3  Game

Show some pictures to let students guess ”what is he/she like”

A: What is he like?   B:  He is serious….

Finish the chart with the words to describe people’s personality.

Step 4  Listening

(1) Read the instructions together with the class. Ask the students to look at the uncompleted sentences.

(2) Play the tape. Students listen carefully and fill in the blanks and then check the answers.

Step 5  Presentation

Look at some different pictures to learn the phrases “used to”

Mario was short in the past.

Mario used to be short….

Step 6  Practice and Consolidation

Show some pictures to let students practice the phrases “used to” “didn’t use to” “Did sb. Used to ”

They used to live in small and old houses.

Our school used to be old, it didn’t use to be beautiful.

----Did he use to have long hair?

----No, he didn’t.

Step 7  Summary

1.     In the period, we’ve mainly learned how to talk about some changes in the past and now through some listening and speaking practice.

2.     Distinguish the phrases “used to do” “be/get used to doing ” “be used to do ”

Step 8  Homework
