Teaching Plan Unit 3 Lesson 4 Christmas
Part 1 Teaching Material
In this part, there is a passage about Christmas in which the author presents his memories about the festival. Expressions about Christmas, the structure of describing a past event as well as the reading strategies about multiple-choices should be the focus.
Part 2 Teaching Aims
1. After class, students should build up an area of vocabulary associated with Christmas.
2. After class, students should be able to develop reading strategies to answer multiple-choice questions.
3. After class, students should be able to write about memories about a traditional festival, especially the Spring Festival.

Step 1 Lead-in
Ask students to listen to a Christmas carol named Here comes Santa Claus and guess the name of the song.
Step 2 Pre-reading
1. Show the pictures about things related to Christmas while dividing them into three parts including What Christmas is about, what do people eat on the day of Christmas and what people do during Christmas.
2. See the pictures and guess when the memories happen.
Step 3 While-reading
1. Ask the students to read the passage and check the prediction.
2. Ask the students to read the passage and match the headings with the paragraphs.
3. Present the strategies of doing multiple-choice questions.
4. Ask the students to finish activity 4 in this lesson.
5. Ask the students to read the passage paragraph by paragraph and fill in the blanks.
Step 3 Post-reading
1. Ask students what they feel about the festival to introduce the Spring Festival and present some articles about the festival.
2. Ask the students to work in a group of three to fill in a chart about the Spring Festival, coming up with different activities they did from the beginning of the festival, the New Year Eve and the day of the New Year. Each student deals with a part.
3. Ask the students to make it a passage named Memories of the Spring Festival and invite a group to write it on the blackboard.
4. Make a conclusion of the lesson by mentioning that both Christmas and the Spring Festival are special occasions for families and we should cherish the beautiful memories.
5. End the lesson with a Christmas carol named We Wish You a Merry Christmas.
Step 4 Homework
Write a passage named Memories of the Spring Festival.
