Teaching aims

1. To train the students’ reading ability.

2.To learn some useful words，expressions and some important sentences.

3 To enable the students to sum up the main idea of each paragraph.

Step 1 Lead-in

1. Greet the students as usual.

2. Introduce the topic of music.

T：Do you know who they are?（The teacher shows the pictures of some famous singers.）

T：Correct. So you all like listening to music. Then what kind of music do they sing?

S1：Pop music.

T：What other kinds of music do you like listening to?

S2：Rap，Classical music

T：Well，good job. It seems you know quite a lot about music. Now let we check whether you are really good at music. Have a lookat the eight pictures. Then I’ll play a tape to you and you will hear 8 kinds of music. After listening，you have to tell me what kind of music you hear，clear? Let’s enjoy some kinds of music.

 Step 2 Skimming

T：First，I would like you to skim the passage about “The Monkees” and Suggested answers：

Paragraph 1：Dreaming of being famous musician or singer.

Paragraph 2：How musicians form bands.

Paragraph 3：How the band got their start.

Paragraph 4：How “The Monkees” became serious about their business.

Step 3 Scanning

T：Now  you have got the general idea about the passage. For this time，I would like you to scan the text and find out whether the following statements are true of false. Time is limited to 4 minutes.
