Step1 Free talk and leading-in

Ss watch a short part of the movie After Shock. After watching it, the teacher asks Ss what it is about to lead in the topic: earthquakes. Then, talk about earthquakes.

Step2 Activity1

1）Ss read Picture1 carefully and the teacher leads them to talk about the picture by asking some questions：What happens to the house? Where is the boy? What is he doing? Why? Can he stand near the heavy furniture? Why? What can we say to the boy to help him?

2）Ss talk about the other three pictures in Activity1 with their partners according to the three question offered in it. Then some students talk about the pictures and the teacher can lead them to talk more about them if necessary.

Step3 Fast reading

Ss read the passage in Activity3 quickly and try to find out the main idea of the passage from the title and the first paragraph. Then Ss try to know the structure of the passage by telling how may pieces of advice there are. Also, Ss try to know the writer’s purpose of writing this passage from the last paragraph.
