Step  = 1 \* ROMAN I Pre-reading

1.           Brainstorming

Brainstorm the names of animals to review what we learnt last class.

 = 1 \* GB3 ①What animals can swim?

 = 2 \* GB3 ②What animals eat grass?

 = 3 \* GB3 ③What animals eat leaves?

 = 4 \* GB3 ④What animals eat meat?

 = 5 \* GB3 ⑤What animals come only from China?

 = 6 \* GB3 ⑥What animals come from Australia?

2.           Guessing a riddle.

He is very big. He is brown or white. He has a long nose. He can work for people. (elephant)

3.           New words presentation

T: The elephant is one country’s symbol. Please guess which country it is. (Thailand)

  Their fist flag had a white elephant on it. It’s a symbol of good luck.

  Do you like elephants? Why? ( smart)

  play soccer—draw—stand on two legs—work for people—walk for a long time and never get lost (An elephant never forgets.)—remember places with water and food

However, elephants are in great danger now.

People kill elephants for their ivory.

People cut down many trees so elephants are losing their homes.

Let’s help elephants.

We must save the trees. Don’t buy things made of ivory. Don’t kill elephants.

Step  = 2 \* ROMAN II While reading

1.Read quickly and find the topic sentence of each paragraph.

Aim: Tip 1: You can often find the topic sentence from the first sentence or the last sentence of each paragraph.

2. Read and check the best title.

Aim: Tip 2: The main idea of each paragraph can help you choose the best title.

3. Read paragraph 1 and fill-in—By using the four-leaf clover mind map.具体思维导图详见worksheet.

Aim: By using the four-leaf clover mind map, it can help Ss understand the structure and the content of the article clearly, which is much easier to absorb a difficult article like this. Besides, it has some meaning to the four-leaf clover which stands for “Good luck”. It’s fun.

Step Ⅲ Post-reading --- Writing

From the symbol of Thailand to the symbol of China—Pandas, we can use the same way to write an article by the four-leaf clover mind map. It aspects four parts, too.  T help Ss demonstrate the article through the four-leaf clover mind map first. Then ask Ss to imitate the article to create their own articles.

2、What can the pandas do? (climb爬; run over来回跑…)

3、Why are they in great danger? (bamboo竹子；fur毛…)

4、How to save them?

Aim: After reading, it promotes writing naturally. Besides, pandas are familiar to the Ss.

It’s much easier to understand so as to write effectively.
