1.           Brainstorming

Brainstorm the names of animals to review what we learnt last class.

 = 5 \* GB3 What animals come only from China?

2.           Guessing a riddle.

He is very big. He is brown or white. He has a long nose. He can work for people. (elephant)

3.           New words presentation

T: The elephant is one country’s symbol. Please guess which country it is. (Thailand)

  Their fist flag had a white elephant on it. It’s a symbol of good luck.

  Do you like elephants? Why? ( smart)

  play soccer—draw—stand on two legs—work for people—walk for a long time and never get lost (An elephant never forgets.)—remember places with water and food

However, elephants are in great danger now.

People kill elephants for their ivory.

People cut down many trees so elephants are losing their homes.

Let’s help elephants.

Aim: By using the four-leaf clover mind map, it can help Ss understand the structure and the content of the article clearly, which is much easier to absorb a difficult article like this. Besides, it has some meaning to the four-leaf clover which stands for “Good luck”. It’s fun.

Step Post-reading --- Writing

From the symbol of Thailand to the symbol of China—Pandas, we can use the same way to write an article by the four-leaf clover mind map. It aspects four parts, too.  T help Ss demonstrate the article through the four-leaf clover mind map first. Then ask Ss to imitate the article to create their own articles.
